Cris Mahern (Mat Certified)
Cris became involved in fitness at a young age through dance and gymnastics. She was a competitive gymnast for over 10 years. Cris was the High School State Champion her Freshman year for Floor Exercise and All Around her Senior year at Warren Central High School. After competition, Cris taught gymnastics at various levels. In addition, she coached and judged competitive gymnastics during and after college for over five years. After completing her BA in Communications from Purdue University, Cris has been working in her family business as a graphic designer and sales account representative.
For many years Cris searched for a fitness program that could be practiced at all levels of fitness and at any age that incorporated physical body control and core strength similar to gymnastics. After taking beginners Pilates classes a few years ago, Cris fell in love with the movement and discipline of this practice. She also found for herself the benefits of Pilates' holistic approach which engages the body and the mind. Cris feels the strength and balance she has gained through Pilates has helped her maintain her busy lifestyle, which she shares with her husband and two teenage boys. Cris also believes it is important for her to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to set a good example for her boys.
Through training and practice Cris has achieved a deeper understanding of the benefits of Pilates. She wanted to share this understanding and passion for Pilates with others, and decided she to get back to her movement teaching background. Cris is currently an apprentice and is working towards her Pilates Mat Certification through Body Arts and Science International (BASI).
